Truth windows can be a great addition to any room for your home, as they can provide a matching aesthetic, open up space, and let you keep your windows open even in the middle of a rainstorm. When selecting and installing a truth window, truth windows are the best hardware to use as their parts are flexible in design, warrantied, and come in great quality. However, one of the most troublesome parts of truth window hardware is replacing the operator on a typical window. It can be difficult to replace yourself and expensive to hire a professional to do it for you. Read below for a step-by-step guide on how to replace your window operator quickly and cheaply. At Window Hardware, we provide quality truth window parts which can be purchased to fit exactly your needs.
Detach Operator From Stud Bracket
To get started, the first step is to remove the screen and mesh from your window. This can easily be unclipped by removing the pins on the four corners of the window. From there, crank the operator to open the window outwards. If your operator isn’t functioning properly, be prepared to use some force to make it turn. Notice that there is a link arm connecting the stud bracket and the operator. Use a screwdriver to apply some pressure on both ends of the link arm to detach the operator from the stud bracket.
Unmounting Operator From Frame
Once the stud bracket has been detached, the next step is to remove the operator itself. In order to do this, look at the area where the link arm meets the operator and remove the screws from the area. Once all of them are removed, the operator can be pulled outwards and removed with the link arm. Be careful to not disturb the rubber gasket as you’ll have to re-use it when installing the new operator.
Remounting Operator to Frame
This is a great time to clean the window frame as it’s likely dirty from repeated use. Simply use a tissue to wipe all the dirt and grime away. To install the new operator and remount it, it’s the same process as removing it. Put the operator through the gasket and screw back in the holes which connect the operator to the frame.
Attaching Operator To Stud Bracket
Once the operator is back into place, you’ll need to re-attach the operator and link the arm to the stud bracket. In order to do this, move the link arm underneath the stud bracket and then use a screwdriver to apply some upwards pressure on the arm. The link arm will pop back into place and re-attach itself to the stud bracket.
Applying Silicone Seal
The last step in this process is to apply a silicone seal around the operator and gasket. This will ensure that there are no gaps in your window and prevent cold air and rain from entering your home.
